Having read English Literature at Durham University, I have studied texts from the Viking Age all the way up to present day, and am hugely interested in the way humanity uses words and storytelling. As a teacher, I previously tutored with Explore Learning, and therefore have experience helping children from reception age through to GCSE in English and Maths. I strive to tailor my teaching approach to each individual child, and to boost their self esteem alongside their grades. In my lessons I am always seeking to foster a true love of learning in my students, encouraging them to read widely around their key subjects, which helps them to develop an independent learning style that will benefit them in all stages of their journey through education. Outside of tutoring, I am an actor and playwright.

Ashmita Saha

I did my Masters in English Literature from University of Leeds. As a person, I’ve always been passionate about teaching and would frequently volunteer to explain lessons in classes. It wasn’t until much later, when I was volunteering in a couple of NGOs that I realised a vast number of children in India were struggling to learn English due to a lack of adequate resources. In this growing era of globalisation, knowing English is strikingly important which is why my objective became to bring forth my knowledge and skill set to teach English Language and Literature. Literature has the power to influence, educate and empower individuals and its subjectivity is one of its striking beauty. I strongly believe that it is best taught when we open dialogue so we must give children a platform for their thoughts and voices. Just like the subject, I’m aware that every child is different as well so I like to make an extra effort to customise my ways of teaching to suit the needs of the child. I believe an educator has a big responsibility to bridge the gap and show the various possibilities that Literature has to provide of the world. I love the subject more so because it can be made fun and reaches the soul if we put our mind and heart into it with honesty. My aim is to improve every child’s learning experience by bringing in my own character to the lessons, and help them to achieve their full potential. I hope to be able to instil the sense of excitement and joy I feel when teaching the subject, in my students too.

I graduated from Heythrop College London in 2017 with a degree in Philosophy and Theology and then went on to do a master’s in Philosophy at King’s College London which I finished in 2019. I enjoy writing essays, examining theories and texts and exploring different opinions. What interests me with English is studying many different pieces of literature, analysising them and writing responses. I relish the opportunity to explore the context of different time periods and how the English language has changed over time. In my spare time, I like reading, cycling, singing and going for long walks! Subjects taught English- KS3 and GCSE Philosophy/Religious Studies- GCSE and A-Level

I am a recent Biomedical science graduate from St George’s University of London, the completion of my degree has only further ignited my passion for education and knowledge. Having tutored in the past and throughout the duration of my degree, my love for educating has only bloomed. I am a scientist by nature, and this carries into my professional life in my accuracy, punctuality, and desire to excel. I strive to give 100% of my time, effort, and attention to my students, because having been a student, I understand the effects a truly outstanding tutor or teacher can have on a young person’s life. I am modest, approachable and relatable, my journey to where I am today is simply because of the helping hands I’ve had along the way; this is what I intent to be for my students – the helping hand they need. When I am not thinking of ways to help people or pondering on biological concepts, I enjoy reading and writing on my blog! I consider myself an artist at heart and love to draw and sketch in the photorealistic style, my medium of choice being graphite!

Kieran James Judge

I am currently studying a PhD in Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University, and also hold MA degrees in Film Producing and Creative Writing, with a BA in Creative Writing & Film And Television Studies as my undergraduate degree. I love books and stories, and film and television, but also love learning about the wider ramifications of both of these methods of communication. They alter how we perceive the world, how we understand it at a fundamental level, and the ways in which these two subject areas can intersect with almost every other subject, be it history or geography or anthropology or psychology, is fascinating. I follow my interests in these areas by writing short stories, which have been published in many anthologies and magazines, and writing about fiction and film for a number of online sites. I worked as a Floor Runner on the feature film *My Happy Ending* (starring Andie Macdowell and Miriam Margolyes), been a slush pile reader for a short story anthology, worked in schools as a supply teacher, and taught the filmmaking activities at Camp Cooper Summer Camp in Scotland. On top of all that, I’ve been a tutor for Manning’s Tutors for nearly three years.

Maria Araújo

I graduated with Distinction from University College London, where I studied for a Master’s in Comparative Literature. My research focused on Anglo-American Modernism and Philosophy of Language, but I regularly engage with all types of text. Writing burrows its way into every aspect of my life – I read, edit, translate, write poetry, review new books, and spend about half of my day trying to find new engaging ways to write boring emails. I think the study of language and literary interpretation is wonderful for different reasons. In a way, it is a superpower – and when used responsibly, it brings people together by articulating their lives and struggles in a relatable and enlightening way. How one tells a story reflects what they find important. Learning to interpret a story allows us to discover *how* this happens, and how to *make it *happen.
