Jolyon White
Jolyon began his career in academia teaching biotechnology in chemical engineering, supervising masters and doctoral projects. He has also acquired extensive experience in industry in technical and commercial roles. More recently Jolyon has been teaching science in schools in socially and economically deprived regions. Jolyon has completed his L3 in Education and Training. Jolyon encourages innovation in his students, giving them the knowledge and confidence to succeed in their exams. Jolyon beleives in helping his students understand the impact of science and technology on their lives., so they can influence and take control of their future.
Beatrice Vincent
Having read English Literature at Durham University, I have studied texts from the Viking Age all the way up to present day, and am hugely interested in the way humanity uses words and storytelling. As a teacher, I previously tutored with Explore Learning, and therefore have experience helping children from reception age through to GCSE in English and Maths. I strive to tailor my teaching approach to each individual child, and to boost their self esteem alongside their grades. In my lessons I am always seeking to foster a true love of learning in my students, encouraging them to read widely around their key subjects, which helps them to develop an independent learning style that will benefit them in all stages of their journey through education. Outside of tutoring, I am an actor and playwright.

I am a current student at St George’s University of London studying Biomedical science. I have developed a deep appreciation for science for a variety of reasons: It helps me understand the world around me, it helps give logical meanings to chaotic and complicated concepts, there is always something to learn and it has a huge impact on human life. Outside of studying I enjoy working on a variety of crochet projects, I hold teaching sessions with children as a member of the Teddy Bear hospital society and I volunteer as a dementia patient befriender.
Harry Richardson
I am a Ph.D student studying Mathematics education at the University of Leeds. I have a BA (Hons) Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Stirling and an MSc Education, Public Policy and Equity from the University of Glasgow. Studying these subjects combined my passion for maths and politics and their applications outside the classroom. I have worked in primary schools and tutored secondary school pupils in maths and currently tutor Modern Studies at all levels of the Scottish Curriculum. Working with students one-to-one and in groups, I understand the importance of finding each student’s unique learning style to help them reach their potential. I have worked with students across various schools across England across a variety of year groups as well as mainstream and SEND pupils. With my Ph.D, I learn about the latest research surrounding Maths teaching and implement these methods into my sessions to provide clients with the most appropiate tution for them.

I graduated from the University of Leicester with an integrated Masters in Physics. I’m currently doing a part-time PhD in BioPhysics at University College London, where I’m hoping to shed light on how cancer develops at the earliest of stages. I am a first year undergraduate Natural Sciences student at University College London, specializing in Biomedical Sciences and Organic Chemistry. I graduated from Gregory University in 2021 where I obtained my B.Sc/B.Eng in Electrical/Electronics Engineering; and I’m currently doing my MSc in Mechatronics & Robotics at the University of Leeds. I have a fascination with the key sciences that make up the physically perceivable universe – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics – because I believe that, only with a full understanding of the laws that govern the universe, would you be able to build systems that break those laws. I don’t learn things just to understand them; I learn things to deconstruct them, rebuild them and optimize them. Hi there! I’m an aspiring actuary and a first-year maths and actuarial science student (BSc Hons) at the University of Manchester. My love for maths existed since the beginning of time and managed to stick with me all the way through GCSEs and A-Levels, so I decided, why not study it at uni? I’ve been privately tutoring for a couple of years now and have previously tutored secondary school maths students with the charity, The Tutor Trust, for almost a year. I am experienced in both online and in-person teaching. However, now I will only be tutoring online as it has become my optimal way of teaching since the beginning of the pandemic. Teaching is a career I’d like to take up in the distant future, after becoming rich from being an actuary off-course. Outside of teaching and learning, I am a volunteer peer buddy for students at my uni, an avid fictional book reader and always on an adventure somewhere in the cities of England. I look forward to work with new faces and hopefully I can inspire other students to pursue a career in maths too!

I chose to study this subject because I have a passion for the built environment and how it can improve people’s lives both practically and aesthetically. I enjoy both Maths and Spanish because they are languages in their own right. They both are means of conveying information that can be understood by others. I particularly enjoy Spanish because of the rich culture and context behind the formation of the language. I am a Philosophy and Political Theory MA student at the University of Manchester, graduating earlier this year with a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Philosophy, also at Manchester. I loved the duality of my undergraduate degree, since it enabled me to understand what may initially seem to be stubbornly pure subjects in an interdisciplinary way. In particular, I enjoy the incontestability and exactness Mathematics is able to offer, while at the same time having the ability to engage with more abstract and conceptual topics in Philosophy. Since both of these fields follow a common logic and a certain list of proof-formats, I was able to continually strengthen my knowledge in either area by practicing the other. Mathematics is, in essence, not about finding solutions to equations or calculating the velocity of a projectile. Although those are useful consequences, mathematics is about discovering structure, finding deep connections and understanding why they exist. As a first year mathematics student at King’s College London, this is why I chose to study the subject. A favourite quote of mine, by Maryam Mirzakhani, says that “The beauty of mathematics only shows itself to its more patient followers”. The rewarding feeling of success after battling with a challenging problem is exactly what makes me pursue mathematics, and I hope to instil that same feeling in my students when they overcome the challenge of a problem to uncover the beauty of mathematics.

I graduated from UCL with a BSc in Physics. I have been teaching and tutoring a wide array of subjects since I was 15. From Maths and Physics to outdoor wilderness training and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! But there was always something else about Physics. It is so ‘mysterious’. There is so much to unpack and learn about. Black holes, dark matter, gravity, and string theory all incite an emotion in me asking me to learn more and more. But I don’t want to go on this learning journey alone! I’m often described by my students as very patient, friendly, and a ‘great explainer’ of challenging topics. I love reading about pedagogy and effective teaching strategies for different types of learners and implementing them in my classes. Students often look up to me as a mentor and not just a tutor. What makes me the happiest is seeing a positive impact in my students’ confidence and self-worth. And I won’t exchange anything in the world for it.
