Kylie Wates
Hello! My name is Kylie and I am currently studying BSc Business Management at King’s College London. I love all things economics related because it is all around us, in everything we do in life. But I also love languages, too. I was born in Japan, and have grown up speaking both Japanese and English. Learning French and Spanish at school meant that I could broaden my horizons even more, and learn about two entirely new cultures, and that’s what I think is the best thing about languages. Aside from academics, I enjoy watching films and playing video games. I also like to bullet journal and scrapbook a lot!

I am an economics and maths tutor with a passion for these subjects. I have a MSc Development Economics, BSc Economics, and currently work as a professional economist. I have extensive experience with A-levels and GCSEs. I enjoy helping students understand and excel in their studies. My teaching style is patient and adaptable, focusing on the unique needs of each student. I believe in the importance of practice, especially through exam questions, to build confidence. As an economist, I bring real-world insights into my teaching, making complex concepts accessible and engaging. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy going to the gym and staying active.

I am currently a second year student at UCL studying History and Spanish. I enjoy humanities and languages for a number of reasons, but most importantly, because of their ability to reveal a new perspective of the past, present and the future. Studying History allows you to see a location, an event or an object in a way that you never before thought was possible. Studying Spanish allows you to understand the language and culture of 447 million people and how their present day life differs from your own. Studying English allows you to nurture your creativiy and imagination, sparking your curiousity of the future and ‘what could be.’ I have experience with tutoring and I believe that having a tutor that really understands you and the way in which you work is essential to success.

I am a computer science graduate from the University of Manchester. I love computing and mathematics, because they promote an empirical understanding of common problems in the world, and provide the tools for creatively finding logical solutions to those problems. The freedom to explore the world like this with the appropriate tools and, more importantly, mindset is invaluable in my opinion. I also have a great appreciation for the natural sciences and economics for the same reasons. In my spare time, I like to spend meaningful time with friends, read, exercise, watch movies, and play games.

I am a 3rd year student currently studying Property Development at the University of Portsmouth. I chose to study this subject because I have a passion for the built environment and how it can improve people’s lives both practically and aesthetically. I enjoy both Maths and Spanish because they are languages in their own right. They both are means of conveying information that can be understood by others. I particularly enjoy Spanish because of the rich culture and context behind the formation of the language. Maths is a key function of our day to day lives, its necessity has led to my interest growing over the years because of the variety of calculations that may come into play on a daily basis.
