Tutor Profile
Hannah W
I am a recent graduate from the University of York, gaining a first class honours degree in Sociology with Criminology. I hold a particular interest in the social investigation of gender and sexuality, and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Sociological concepts and everyday social life. In exploring these topics, I have been encouraged to think critically about different perspectives, and developed my own worldview. As a result, I am able to comment on structural processes, note the contemporary issues within our society, and can analyse the ways in which theoretical ideas are apparent within social discourses. One reason why I enjoy literature so much is that it is very sociological in nature. It possesses the ability to influence an entire population’s thoughts, and can even impact culture as we know it today. In tutoring English language and literature, I am not only able to engage students in the required content (I am familiar with the combined A level and GSCE syllabus), but I also want to introduce students to an array of contemporary ideas through my sociological background, providing a unique standpoint on literary topics. This will not only stimulate student's academic progression in evolving their answers, but additionally aids in developing pupil's creativity, finding new ways to enjoy novels and methods of learning as I always have.
