Tutor Profile
Ian K
I'm currently working as a Graduate TA (Maths) in an academy in north-west London and will start teacher training in 2024. I graduated from UCL in 2023 with a BSc in Philosophy, Politics and Economics with Social Data Science with First Class Honours. There are more connections between the two than you might expect – the study of political science (specifically political behaviour) and economics has so much to do with running social experiments and that is a lot of statistical analysis (and underlying mathematical reasoning) that goes into shaping our understanding of how voters and politicians behave (which is probably why I enjoy maths so much – it is an interesting tool that has tangible, practical uses). I'm also deeply passionate about enabling students not only learn to use maths as a tool to understand complex systems but also to see the connections between seemingly disparate topics that they see in school (and of course get the sense of fulfilment when they can work a problem out and understand how bits of maths fit together). Outside of Maths and arguing about politics, I am actively involving in rowing as a coxswain (steering rowing boats and directing/motivating rowers – think lots of shouting) and manage (and sing in) an acapella group.
