I am currently doing an undergraduate degree in BA Criminology at University of York. Since studying Criminology, I have become incredibly familiar with the study of criminal and deviant behaviour, crime control, punishment and related socio-political issues. What has contributed to shaping me as a criminologist and social scientist is my Sociological foundation which is why I want to share my interest in the subject through my teaching. Central to my Sociological interest is the subject teaches students not to take the social world at face value but to be critical of it as students are led to acknowledge that the social world and its components are socially constructed. I want to help students take advantage of the opportunity they have to go beyond essentialist viewpoints, challenge or accept metanarratives about the social world and deconstruct and reconstruct it by applying theories whilst being very successful in Sociology. Similarly, I have a passion for English and at the centre of my love for the subject of English, is the fact that I have always enjoyed reading but as I know that this does not resonate with everyone, another reason would be that as a subject it has areas that provide avenues for students to be more authentic in their answers. In English exams and assessments, no one gives the same answers or expresses their view/answer to the question in the same way and I like this complexity. However, I understand that not everyone likes this about English, that there can be multiple versions of the same answer and that no one looks at a question in the same way. I want to be a part of helping students navigate the confusion and difficulty that can come with knowing that in English, your answer can be expressed however you want to do so and will not always be the same as others but as long as you have guidance on how to most clearly and effectively frame your answers you can be very successful in it. Besides enjoying the subjects of Sociology and English, I enjoy reading, going to the cinema and recently discovered I am good at baking doughnuts (and a few other things). Also, I am a part of a youth group. Subjects taught: English literature and language/ English literature/ Sociology
